Here’s a list of a few things to keep your kids entertained on vacation or at special events. This is my favorite:

“Buy a cheap digital camera before going on vacation and give them a list of things to photograph on the trip.”

I don’t know if I’d trust a kid with an expensive camera, but it’s a cool idea for a responsible child. Plus, what a great self-esteem booster for a kid that wants to be a photographer!
