My Favorite Writing Tip

I have been doing a LOT of writing lately (hence my sporratic posts on PIT). Here’s a great tip: PUT IT DOWN FOR TWO FULL WEEKS. Once you write something (a story, a journal entry, a poem, whatever) and you think it’s the best you can do, put it in a drawer and don’t touch it. Don’t think about it. Let it drift as far away from your mind as you can. Then, after the two weeks are up (no cheating) you can get an entirely new perspective on your writing. It’s almost like reading something someone else wrote, so you can edit it with a much more critical eye. If you do a lot of re-writes, it’s important to escape from it for a while to obtain a clear perspective.
